Whenever a transcriptionist comes across a new drug name he must know how to search for it and become familiar with the drugs, their indications and dosages. Being up to date can save a lot of search time. Remember, good productivity in transcription is a critical factor as payment is usually made on a per line basis.
While a drug’s trade name or brand name is selected for its appeal to prescribing physicians, the generic drug can have several trade names, each copyrighted by different manufacturers. While transcribing drug names these are some of the main factors that should be kept in mind by the transcriptionist.
Generic names are in lower case
Trade names start in capitals and can have internal caps as well
PDR (Physicians’ Desk Reference) is for prescribed drugs
Separate publication for non prescribed drugs
Drugs can sound similar but be totally different in spelling and usage
Do not capitalize words like tablet / capsule / solution / cream etc
One of the biggest challenges medical transcriptionists often come across is when listening to tapes that may not be very clear in the dictation. It can be confusing when there are two drugs that are spelled differently but sound very much alike. These two drugs could be for completely different uses and the transcription professional has to be very alert to all such names.

I’ll assume that you have the basics like a desk, phone, and trash can. For most people, a computer and printer are essential as well. Besides these big ticket items, think about what is cluttering up your desk right now. All these items should be organized so you can find them quickly when you need them. If I had to choose 5 items to get you on the right track, I’d pick a filing system, some trays, an office organizer, a calendar, and a comfortable desk chair.
Let’s start with the filing system. Consider the kind of work that you do, and make files for important papers and receipts according to your needs. For instance, do you travel a lot for your business? Then make a file for all of your travel expenses. Once you have your files made, you can organize the loose papers on your desk.
Next, the trays will help you organize your desktop. Designate trays for an inbox and outbox for daily mail that you need to get through each day. You might need a few more trays for papers to file, catalogs, and other miscellaneous items.
Another essential item is an office organizer. This can be a tray, basket, or a drawer that contains all your basic office supplies. Organizing your pens, pencils, paper clips, tape, stamps, and other supplies does wonders for making your desk appear in order.
A few additional basics to add to your office are a good calendar, and a comfortable office chair.

You need to move documents and clear, to make room on your desk job? Is your desk and completed projects, stacks of unread correspondences covered with sticky notes taken sketches of unknown days news, pens without ink, pencil without lead, more clips and memos stored on the computer to remind you of appointments spread. Does this sound familiar? If so, you must recover the desk and conquer all the demons withininvade your desktop. A desk is not a place of confusion to be creative and productive, you just add the feeling of being overwhelmed, stressed and distracted.
However, in 15 minutes you can defeat the demons and the writing of an environment of success that you will feel very productive and motivated. Here are four steps, you get the perfect desk in 15 minutes.
Clear your desk of All
